Configuring: Join Timestamps

Select which data fields and which timestamps fields you want to join in the new dataset. Map the data fields with a corresponding timestamp field. Each mapped data field to a timestamp field will show the data value at every timestamp in that timestamp field, whether the value is repeated or interpolated from the original value at the original timestamp. It is therefore important to know your operation and datasets in order to map appropriate fields and isolate relevant data values at relevant timestamps.

Worked example: Join timestamps

Steps to configure

  1. Timestamp selection: Select which fields you want to map to which timestamp field. This will generate the values and corresponding timestamp for the new dataset fields.

  2. Execute: A new dataset is created, with the new joined timestamp field and the new fields with the corresponding values. All the original values will still correspond to the original timestamps.

Step 1: Timestamp selection

Select the fields that you want to map from the Fields window, and map it to any of the timestamp fields listed in the Timestamp Fields window. This will create new fields by pairing that field with the various selected timestamp fields. Here you can also select to interpolate the values.

  • Highlight the field and the appropriate timestamp field, and click the green [+] icon to add those fields to the Created Output window.

  • Only one output will created per field and timestamp that you map.

  • Default name that will be assigned to the new field is: [Field name]_[Timestamp].

  • Check the interpolation box in order to generate values for additional timestamps.

  • Interpolation will only be calculated for numeric fields, i.e. integer and doubles.

  • Default: the Created Output window will list no outputs and the Interpolate Values check box will be unchecked.

  • Minimum configuration: at least one output is configured and created.

Step 2: Execute

A new dataset will be created by joining all the timestamps into a new timestamp field, listing all the timestamps in chronological order. All original data values are included in the new dataset, and will still correspond to the original timestamp.
